Romania will never accept the theory of collective rights for minorities president Traian Basescu said during a press conference in Bratislava held along his with his Slovak counterpart Ivan Gasparovic.

„ I am saying here the same I’ve said in Bucharest, that we will never accept the collective rights theory for minorities and we will never accept for someone outside Romania to come and tell us how to run our territorial administrative organization ", Băsescu said.

The president said he talked with his Slovak counterpart about the two countries positions on the Kosovo issue, because both Romania and Slovakia, along with Cyprus, Spain and Greece form a group of five EU countries that have not recognized Pristina's independence

Asked if they discussed the situation of the Hungarian minorities in the two countries, Gasparovic said, "I found that we actually take and have taken the same approach to this minority as to the citizens of our countries."

„When they push to overstep the limits, states react politely, with kind words, but they do react ", Băsescu added.

Basescu also said that Romania and Slovakia adjusted their legislation and guaranteed European standards for minorities.

Basescu pinpointed that the Slovak minority in Romania was well integrated and composed of "hardworking people" and to thanked them on behalf of the Romanian state.

„If you come to Romania, you can see how beautiful the localities inhabited by the Slovak ethnics are", the president said.

Traian Basescu added that he also discussed with Ivan Gasparovic the EU Strategy for the Danube Region and the crisis in Syria.

During his visit to Slovakia, which will end Thursday, Basescu will have a meeting with the Chairman of the Parliament, Pavol Paska, will meditate at the Romanian Army Military Cemetery in Zvolen and will participate in a ceremony at the Liberation Museum in the city of Banska Bystrica, Slovakia.
