According to a press release from the Ministry of Justice, this is the first assessment mission conducted after the publication of the European Commission Report in January 2014 and contributes to the drafting of the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism report (CVM) to be released later this year or early 2015 .
The European Commission expert’s team consists of officials from the General Secretariat, the General Directorate for Justice and the European Commission Representation in Romania.
During the Tuesday meeting, the EC representatives discussed with the Minister of Justice, Robert Cazanciuc about the new codes enforcement about the integrity of the legislative framework, the quality and stability of the national legislation, on the project development strategy of the judiciary, about the publication of judicial decisions, the independence of the judiciary and about the process of revising the Constitution and the National Anticorruption Strategy.
The evaluation mission will end Thursday. The team of experts will meet in three days with representatives of the Superior Council of Magistrates, the Judicial Inspection, the National Institute of Magistracy, the High Court of Cassation and Justice, the Public Ministry, the National Anticorruption Directorate, the National Integrity Agency, and with prosecutors in the Bucharest Prosecution Office.
