Romanians will see no more smokers in almost all indoor public spaces! The Chamber of Deputies has passed by 164 "yeas" and 20 "neys" a law that bans smoking in restaurants, clubs and in open spaces too, if they are located near playgrounds. This law prohibits the setting up of special areas for smoking in public institutions and buildings.

There are only two exceptions to this rule: maximum security prisons and airports. Penalties for failing to observe this law are harsh. Fines range from 100 to 500 lei for natural persons and from 5 thousand to 15 thousand lei for legal persons.

One can argue against the provisions of this law at the Constitutional Court within five days and then the law is to be promulgated by President Klaus Iohannis.
