Romanian MPs think they have found the means of determining future mothers to go to the doctor during pregnancy. Women will receive clothes and baby care products when they leave the hospital after giving birth. However, new moms must first prove they underwent all the required pregnancy checkups. This legislative initiative is supposed to reduce the infant mortality rate in this country, highest in Europe. MPs fail to take one thing into account though: more often than not, poverty and not ignorance prevents pregnant women from going to the doctor.
