Romanians do not like to live paying rent. The purpose of most of them is to buy an apartment or a studio. And it takes financial efforts, often over several decades.

That is, although we have the lowest wages in the European Union, however, we pride ourselves first in terms of the number of owners, as shown by Eurostat.

About 95.6% of the Romanians managed to become owners of their homes, our country came in first place in the European Union.

From this point of view, Romania exceeds  more developed countries, such as Germany, France, UK, Spain, Poland and Sweden, as indicated by the latest data provided by the statistical office of the European Union, Eurostat.

And this despite the fact that Romanians and  Bulgarians have the  lowest average net monthly wage in the European Union.

A similar situation is encountered in Lithuania, Hungary and Slovakia. In these countries, people prefer to be owners, not renters, although they count  among workers with the lowest wages in the European Union. A Lithuanian earns on average 248 euros per month, 74 euros more than a Romanian, a Hungarian EUR 267 and Slovakian 351 euros.

In other EU countries, the higher the monthly income, the less desire to become owner. The Swiss, for example, are the Europeans who earn the highest average net wage, ie 2,615 euros per month, 15 times more than a  Romanian. However, only 44% are owners. This is also the lowest rate recorded at the European level.
