Traian Băsescu says that Antena 3 alone is responsible for his brother’s conviction. Moreover, in a posting on Facebook, the former president is pressuring the magistrate judging the appeal.
Mircea Băsescu was sentenced to four years in prison for influence peddling. But the decision is not final. Anghel family members also received sentences between 4 and a half years to 13 years because they asked for their money back.
While prosecutors had sought a sentence of seven years for Mircea Basescu, magistrates found that the brother of former president could stay only four years in prison.
Now, the Bercea family have got higher sentences to that received by Mircea Basescu, and they have also lost the money, because the judiciary decided to confiscate the 265,000 euros, which will go to the state.
And the former President started attacking again. After telling the judges at the Court of Appeal the sentence they should order, he blamed everything on Antena 3.
Dissatisfied with the sentence, Mircea Basescu is challenging the ruling. Moreover, his lawyer says he does not know what the grounds for his sentence are. On the other hand, Bercea family lawyer, Pavel Abraham is convinced that prosecutors will appeal this conviction.
Incidentally Bercea and his family will appeal the decision and the confiscation of 265,000 euros.
