The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Valeriu Zgonea, said, on Friday, that he received the Constitutional Court note upon president’s Traian Basescu suspension. In this manner, all the conditions required to continue the parliamentary procedures are fulfilled, Mediafax informs.
Zgonea announced that he, at his turn, transmitted the Court’s note to all MPs, pointing out that he hadn’t read the note of the matter.
"They sent the consultative note of the Constitutional Court, and I asked them to distribute it to all parliamentary groups leaders, to all MPs and members of the Permanent Bureau”, Zgonea said.
The Court respected our deadline, though very short, it was fair and they transmitted the note. As I said in the Joint Permanent Bureau, the Constitutional Court is a fundamental institution of the Romanian state, nobody will pressure it and, at its turn, the Court will send us the note respecting the deadline set by the plenary of our Parliament”, mentioned the President of the Lower Chamber.
He expressed his gratitude for the prompt pronunciation of the note, considering this to be "an example that in Romania the justice is independent”.
Being asked if the Court’s note was rather negative than positive, Zgonea said: The Court’s note has a consultative character, the Court does not speak clearly (...). I haven’t read the argumentation of the matter for the 7, 8, 10 so called counts that PSD and PNL parliamentary groups transmitted, I shall read carefully this note, but still, it is a consultative note”, the Chamber’s President affirmed.
He underlined that in this moment all the conditions required to continue the procedures to suspend the president. "Today all the conditions provided in the Constitution and other Regulations are fulfilled so that, at 5.00 pm, as I have already signed with Mr. Antonescu, the plenary of the Chambers session start. President Traian Basescu has already been sent an invitation letter for 5.00 p.m.”, Zgonea said.
