President Klaus Iohannis signed Saturday the decree decorating posthumously the multiple Olympic champion Iolanda Balas Soter, announces the Presidential Administration.

 The head of state awarded posthumously the National Order " Star of Romania" in the rank of Grand Officer to Iolanda Balas-Soter " as a sign of high appreciation for her lifetime achievement in the service of sport performance, contributing in this way to asserting internationally the Romanian athletics school and promoting Olympic values among the younger generation of champions '',  agerpres.ro reports.

Iolanda Balaș died Friday at the age of 79 years.

Iolanda Balaș-Soter is the first Olympic champion in the Romanian athletics and the only holder of 2 supreme titles in the best Olympic sport.

Her success is unmatched - 14 world records in the high jump, of which 12 consecutive ones, two Olympic champion titles, three European (and one silver), 3 world university titles, 9 Balkan titles, 19 national titles.
