A Romanian drowned in the Adriatic Sea after falling off the ferry traveling between Italy and Greece, the corpse was found by the crew of a fishing vessel, the website of the La Repubblica daily informs.


Romanian Constantin L. went missing Wednesday evening after, according to witnesses he had jumped from a ferry which connects the Italian port of Ancona and Igoumenitsa, a town in northwestern Greece.

Immediately after other passengers signaled that the Romanian had fallen overboard, the ferry crew activated the emergency procedures. Searches conducted by small boats lasted about two hours, without result, then the ferry, which was carrying 900 passengers continued on to Greece.
Search operations continued throughout the night and during the day on Thursday with helicopters and ships of the Italian Coast Guard.
Thursday afternoon, an Italian fishing vessel fished the Romanian passenger's body, which was transported to the Italian port of Bari.
