He was unpleasantly surprised in Bucharest by his Romanian counterpart Bogdan Aurescu, who handed him a celebration brochure marking 135 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. On the cover of the brochure, instead of the German map, the map of France was printed, shaded in German flag colors, along with the map of Romania.
