Regional Policy Commissioner Corina Cretu, started Tuesday a two-day official visit to Bulgaria.

Regional Policy Commissioner Corina Cretu participated with Tomislav Donchev, Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister, Denitsa Nikolova, Deputy Minister responsible for regional development, Plamen Stoilov, Mayor of Ruse and Nicolae Barbu, Mayor of Giurgiu, at the opening ceremony of the Tutrakan avenue in the city of Ruse, which was co-funded with EUR 4.7 million from the European Regional Development Fund, under the CBC Bulgaria-Romania 2007-2013.

The second project visited was the Riparian Information System of Ruse for the Bulgarian part of the Danube that will ensure safe and efficient navigation on Danube. This project was co-funded by 13.6 million from the European Regional Development Fund under the program for transport 2007-2013.
“Our cross-border programs are very dear to my heart because this is Europe, finding common solutions to common challenges. Bulgaria and Romania intend to use cross-border cooperation, first of all, to explore transport connections and, in particular, across the Danube. For the period 2014-2020, Romania and Bulgaria have a new CBC program, which was adopted on 14 February 2015 with a total budget of 258 million euros and 216 million euros from the European Regional Development Fund, 15 regions covering the border between Bulgaria and Romania.
