Thirty-one migrants, found in a truck registered to Romania, were arrested Sunday night near Malko Tarnovo, near the Bulgarian-Turkish border, Bulgarian news agency BTA online reports, according to Mediafax.
The truck was driven by a Turkish driver, Dejan Mollov said, deputy director of the regional border police.
Mollov and Bulgarian Defense Minister Nikolai Nencheva who visited Elhovo, told the press that they expect pressure from immigrants to grow in the winter months.
“If necessary, we are ready to assist the Turkish-Bulgarian border guards and strengthen troop presence there, " Nencheva said.
Asked when the army might recourse to the use of force and firearms, Nencheva replied that this could only happen if they cannot defend themselves. The Minister explained that the soldiers were given clear instructions that they must comply with national laws, international law and the UN Charter.
