The former Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Vlad Filat, was arrested last night and remanded in custody at the National Anticorruption Centre.

The arrest took place shortly after the Moldovan Parliament deprived him of immunity. Filat is charged with soliciting and receiving, between 2010 and 2014, money, goods and other undue benefits and services worth over 250 million dollars.

Prosecutors allegedly have testimonies and evidence proving Vlad Filat's involvement in the 1.5 billion-dollar fraud at Moldova's Savings Bank.
