UPDATE 12.58 – President Klaus Iohannis argued Thursday that Romania is ready to support Ukraine in the domestic reform process needed to meet the EU association commitments taken.

"I wanted to reassure President Poroshenko of Romania’s strong and steady support for sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine. The respect for the principles and norms governing international relations formed the basis of our foreign policy and Romania will continue to be consistent from this point of view.

Romania is ready to support Ukraine in the process of internal reforms necessary to meet the commitments undertaken by the EU association, "said Iohannis in the joint statement with his Ukrainian counterpart, Petro Poroshenko, according agerpres.ro.

He stressed that the support granted by Romania to Ukraine on the European and Euro-Atlantic path "is a solid basis for substantial progress in the bilateral relationship."

Iohannis said that talks with his counterpart focused on the security situation in Eastern Ukraine and stressed the importance of full and timely implementation of the Minsk agreements.

Also, the two heads of state exchanged views on security developments in the Black Sea region and their impact on the security and interests of Romania and Ukraine.

"We will continue to cooperate closely at regional and international level", said Iohannis.

President Klaus Iohannis welcomed Thursday the Ukrainian president Petro Poroşenko, at the Presidential Palace. 

The welcoming ceremony was held on the official plateau at Cotroceni Palace, where, after singing the two countries anthems, the president of Ukraine gave the Honor to the Guard and Protocol Regiment.

The two heads of state will hold a joint press statement.

Petro Poroşenko will also meet with PM Dacian Cioloş. 

On March 17, 2015, Klaus Iohannis was in an official visit to Kiev, where he said he strongly supported Ukraine's rapprochement with the European Union.
