Italian satirist Maurizio Crozza compared the center-left Prime Minister of Italy, Matteo Renzi to Nicolae Ceausescu, mocking the new electoral law proposed by the Italian Government and adopted by Parliament last week in Rome, Mediafax reports.

The Genovese humorist ironized in DiMartedi show, aired on TV channel LA7, the policies passed by the center-left premier, also referring to the electoral law, for which the Renzi Government assumed responsibility and was granted the Parliament’s confidence last week.

"Ten years later, Matteo Renzi has managed the adoption of an electoral law, which grants all the powers to the Prime Minister. Not even Ceausescu, if you heard of him, created such a law," Crozza said.

The new Italian electoral law (Italicum) provides for a proportional voting system, advantages for the parliamentary majority, a threshold of 3 percent (and the votes redistribution of parties that do not reach the threshold) the amendment of electoral districts and two rounds of elections. The law, which has attracted much criticism, especially from small parties will enter into force on 1 July 2016.
