Romania will send more troops in the theaters of war abroad, a press release posted on the website of the Presidential Administration, after the Supreme Council for National Defense meeting (CSAT en), attended by Prime Minister Dacian Cioloş, read.

“Next year, Romania's armed forces will continue participating in missions and operations outside the Romanian state under the leadership of NATO, EU, OSCE and UN, achieving two essential missions: protecting Romania and its allies and promoting regional and global stability. (...)
Forces made available in 2016 by the Ministry of National Defense to perform missions outside the national territory includes 1181 soldiers, with more than 158 soldiers this year. From this number, 943 soldiers can be deployed in theaters of operations and in the individual missions of observation and peacekeeping, and another 238 soldiers will be in the country available for deployment upon order ", the press released by the Presidential Administration read.
In turn, the Ministry of Internal Affairs will provide for the missions of the European Union, OSCE, NATO and the UN, in 2016, a total of 1,530 gendarmes and policemen, of which 1054 will participate in missions and 476 could be deployed on order .
Compared to 2015, the number is lower by 91 gendarmes and police officers.
Another point on the agenda was the review and approval of measures taken by Romania to implement internationally set sanctions regimes over the period October 2014 - September 2015.
The Council noted that the institutions with responsibilities in the area have implemented in the reference period, the penalties established by law through the framework and sectorial regulations.
Also, in today's meeting, the Council approved the Intelligence Strategy for 2015 - 2019 submitted by the Romanian Intelligence Service, document that sets tasks and directions of activity of the Service, ensuring implementation of the Country National Defense Strategy, in line with developments in the security environment.

In the same context, the Council established the following steps to update the legal framework for preventing and combating terrorism in order to adapt national capabilities to the new types and levels of terrorist threat connecting it to the European and international regulations.






Also in today's meeting, the Council considered proposals for the 2016 budget of the institutions responsible for national security, these being approved.
At the end of the meeting, the Council approved the Activity program of CSAT for 2016, a document necessary to achieve the constitutional objective of the Council, for the organization and coordination of activities related to unified national security.

The meeting was also attended by: Prime Minister of the Romanian Government, Mr. Dacian Cioloş; deputy PM , Minister of Economy, Trade and Relations with the Business Environment, Mr. Costin Grigore Borc; Minister of National Defence, Mr. Mihnea Ioan Motoc; Interior Minister Mr. Petre Tobă; Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Lazăr Comănescu; Justice Minister Mrs. Raluca Alexandra Prună; Finance Minister, Mrs. Anca Dana Dragu; Director of the Romanian Intelligence Service, Mr. Eduard Hellvig; Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service, Mr. Mihai Răzvan Ungureanu; Chief of General Staff, General Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă; Presidential Adviser for National Security, Mr. Ion Oprişor, and Secretary of CSAT, Mr. Mihai Şomordolea. The following guests were also in attendance: Special Telecommunications Service Director, Mr. Marcel Opriş and Protection and Guard Service Director, Mr. Lucian Pahonţu.
