President Klaus Iohannis has said that the terrorist attack in Paris is a "cowardly" one, stressing that the freedom of information is a fundamental human right.
"The attack on the weekly French editorial Charlie Hebdo is a cruel and cowardly terrorist act. I express my sympathy to the families of the victims and solidarity with the French nation which has been hit so hard today. I assure all Romania’s partners of our full support in the fight against terrorism and extremism any kind. The international community must take a firm stand against the terrorist attempts to destroy the rule of law, to violate civil rights and liberties, "the president wrote Wednesday on his Facebook account.
Regarding the fact that the attack took place at a publication’s headquarters, the Romanian head of state said that religious tolerance is fundamental to modern civilization.
"The freedom of information is a fundamental human right. Both religious and ethnic tolerance as well as the freedom of expression are the foundation of the modern civilization, built on the principles of democracy," he added on the social network.
