Two men and two women of Romanian origin, charged with attempted extortion, were arrested by border guards in the French department of Jura, the Swiss broadcaster, RTS informs quoted by Mediafax.
The four individuals were on board a car registered in Germany. Swiss canton police had already been warned about the vehicle in question, following previous scam attempts in Courroux village, as indicated by border guards in the Neuchâtel Jura region.
The latter found fake jewelry hidden in a plastic bag under the back seat of the vehicle. The products were "destined for the market in Switzerland, being presented as gold jewelry," authorities indicated.
The people have been handed over to the judicial authorities for investigation, and the goods were confiscated and destroyed by customs administration.
