Jurnalul.ro reports that Elmar Brock is a close friend of Monica Macovei and he has been involved in several public scandals.

In 2007 Elmar Brok wrote to the General Prosecutor of Romania, Laura Codruţa Kovesi, that he was concerned about the persecutions that that MISA yoga school and Gregorian Bivolaru were being subjected to.
The European Commissioner thus intervened directly in an investigation conducted by the Romanian prosecutors, by the power of the office held, the MEP offered protection to MISA members and to Bivolaru.
Moreover, in the same letter, Brok showed his disappointment that the SCM investigation found that his friend Monica Macovei was responsible for the irregularities in the file , who used to be Minister of Justice. Brock belongs to the same parliamentary group as Macovei and he is also friends in Germany with the husband of her former assistant, an MPEP for the Christian Democrats.
The Commissioner’s brief features several scandals, however.
