Elif Memet, a XII grader at a high school in Constanta, won first place in a European essay competition and solutions with a thesis on fighting global poverty. Qualified in the top 25 in the world, Elif will go in April at the White House where she will present the ideas in one of the most prestigious conferences for the young people.


Adrian Ursu spoke to Elif Memet during the Sequential show on Antena 3.

The young woman said that the basic idea of her essay research came from her own country, Romania. "I have interacted and saw the poverty level in Romania through volunteer projects," said Elif Memet.

"I foster environmental concerns, I patented an organic fertilizer produced from an industrial by-products, coming from the brewing industry, milk and wood. I won the gold medal at the International Environment Olympiad with it, " Elif Memet said.

Asked what can be done to change the foreigners perception over Romanians, Elif Memet said, "racial or ethnic discrimination of any kind is a crime (...). Leading by example would change this paradigm, this discrimination".

Alina Popescu, designated one of the top 50 US students and a graduate of Harvard University, spoke on the same edition of the Sequential show about her work.
