The European Union will grant Romania €61 million for borders security

The European Parliament approved on Thursday an allocation of 2.6 billion euros for the 2014-2020 programing period to be used for securing the external borders of the European Union.

Romania will receive at least 61 million euros, Mediafax reports.     

More than half of the value of the funds will be for the Member States applying the Schengen provisions in the form of financial assistance for their national border security.

According to a press release from the EPP, these programs will be complemented with coordinated action by the EU and a rapid response mechanism to cope with emergencies.
