The leader of the European Socialists Party has said today in Budapest that the democratic decision of the Romanian Parliament must be respected and that Victor Ponta deserves to remain prime minister.
Serghei Stanişev said that economic measures taken by Victor Ponta qualify him to continue leading the Romanian Government.
"'I am pretty worried by the political tension. The Parliament rejected the censure motion. And this is a democratic procedure which must be respected. It confirms the legitimacy of the Government’s work," Serghei Stanisev said.
"I was impressed to see that the Government took this courageous measure to reduce the VAT for food, drastically, by 15%. This actually matters for the people. Romania has the highest economic growth in the European Union in the first quarter of this year, which is impressive. Political conflict does not bring along welfare and benefits to the people. There should be a dialog between power and opposition ", he said.
