The location of the missile defense shield is a real threat to both the US and the European countries that will host these defensive systems because they build a dangerous illusion of invincibility, Russian President Vladimir Putin says.

"These ABM systems (anti-ballistic missile) constitute a threat not only to Russia, but to the whole world. Here, we are considering the destabilization of  the strategic balance of powers. This initiative is dangerous even for the United States, Washington creates a  dangerous illusion of invulnerability and reinforces the tendency to often take malicious  unilateral decisions that can bring additional risks, " Putin said in his annual speech on the state of the nation.

Russia will not get involved in an expensive arms race, added  the Russian president, but ensures that  the defensive strength of his country can fully guarantee the security of its borders.



The US plans to locate a defensive shield in Europe provide for the position of the  Arleigh Burke missile destroyers, which are combined with Aegis weapons system and adjacent radars.


Interceptors batteries will be located in Poland and Romania, the  central radar will be hosted by Turkey and the command center will be operated  by the US base in Ramstein, Germany.

Russia considers that this system represents a major threat to its security and  has repeatedly warned that in turn  it will increase its own arsenal.
