President Traian Basescu calls on the President of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, not to order the repression of protesters in Ukraine, pointing out that he was "deeply concerned about the wave of violence and loss of human lives caused by the clashes in the streets of Kiev"

"The President of Romania, Traian Basescu, is deeply concerned about the wave of violence and loss of lives occurred in the clashes in the streets of Kiev, thee where the Euro-Field protesters are confronting the police. Romania went through violent confrontations in the 1989 Revolution and more than 1,000 people lost their lives fighting for freedom and democracy. We learned then that violence is not a solution and that the options should be sought through democratic dialogue, " a statement of the presidency said.

The President of Romania calls on the president of Ukraine not to order the repressions of protesters.

"President Traian Băsescu calls on the President of Ukraine, Viktor Ianukovici, to not resort to force and to not order the protesters repression. Such a gesture cannot constitute a democratic solution to the credibility crisis of the current parliament majority. The continuation of violent repressions against protesters will definitely lead to an intensification of the confrontations and it cannot be a solution to the current crisis Ukraine is facing. The President of Romania, Mr. Traian Băsescu, also appeals to the President of Ukraine, Mr. Viktor Ianukovici, to find solutions through dialogue to prevent the raise in the number of victims in Kiev, and in other areas of the Ukraine ", the press statement reads.
