The Charge d'Affaires of the U.S. Embassy to Romania, Duane Butcher, considers that the scandal involving the president’s brother "reinforces the independence of prosecutors and the judiciary system " and shows that "people are equal before the law."
"We do not comment on specific cases. However I can tell you that this case reinforces the independence of prosecutors and the judiciary system. It shows that, in this country, people are equal before the law and even family ties at the highest level will not protect someone who has committed an offense”, the American official said quoted by Mediafax.
The head of the U.S. diplomatic mission to Romania, Duane Butcher, praises "the heroism of those who fight against corruption" in our country. Butcher also describes as "extraordinary" the progress made in this area this year.
"I am extremely impressed by the heroism of those who fight against corruption, sometimes in extremely difficult conditions. Especially in the context of some attacks by the press against those doing their jobs and fighting for Romania", Duane Butcher said.
