The ceasefire agreement signed Thursday in Minsk is viewed with skepticism by Prime Minister Victor Ponta. The Prime Minister ha said that there are still concerns about the situation in Eastern Ukraine and the possibility of the conflict extending. The Prime Minister has made these remarks exclusively for the Daily Summary show, after a series of meetings with officials in Washington and representatives of large US companies.

Asked if there are current concerns that the developments in the region could escalate even after the Minsk agreement was signed , Prime Minister Victor Ponta, located in Washington, said yes.

"Absolutely yes, and I thinks nobody has the illusion - neither in Romania nor in Washington - that what was signed today means 100% that all the problems in the region have been settled. May it be true, but enough agreements have been seen and, afterwards, in reality things were not so, "said Ponta for Antena 3.

The Prime Minister added that the United States of America are counting on Romania and consider Romania their most trusted partner in the region.

The negotiations at Minsk concluded Thursday with a cease fire agreement which was to enter into force on the night of Saturday to Sunday.

The Agreement provides for the withdrawal of heavy weapons. The parties agreed to a demilitarized zone, along the front line that was in effect in September.
Kiev will resume the economic ties, the social payments and banking services in the separatist areas previously interrupted in response to the elections organized in the self-proclaimed republics.

After the local elections in Donetsk and Lugansk regions, Kiev will restore control over their borders with Russia. The transition may take a while, time required for a comprehensive constitutional reform in Ukraine.
