Ponta criticized President Basescu’s today speech, whose aim was to announce whom he would vote for in the European Parliament elections.
"I feel that those who hold public offices in this country have a very big responsibility, especially in times of crisis. (...) We have an obligation to be extremely careful and coordinated with our allies," Premier Victor Ponta said on Antena 3.
Victor Ponta stressed the importance of convening a new meeting of the Supreme Council for the Country’s Defense to discuss the situation in Ukraine, which changes every day.
"The last CSAT meeting was held on March 27, so a month and a half ago, or the situation in Ukraine is changing every day. The conflict is approaching our borders, Odessa is a hundred or so kilometers away, and if one is a responsible and serious leader of Romania he cannot say that we have discussed in March, well in March no longer resembles the situation today and if the President will not convene the CSAT, we will convene it ourselves, of course", Ponta said.
Asked when he intended to convene a CSAT meeting, Ponta said: "We can submit the request, the effective date is afterwards determined by the president."
