"Romania has two well-known objectives. One is the accession to the Schengen area, which we hope will have a favorable outcome in December this year, a favorable decision. And the second, joining the Eurozone. The crisis, however, showed us that things are not that simple when we talk about joining in the euro zone", the president said, according to Agerpres.
The decision on the timing regarding Romania and Bulgaria’s accession has been delayed at the Justice and Home Affairs in March, following the opposition of Germany, the Netherlands and Finland, which showed that they expected Bucharest to register more progress in the Mechanism of Verification and Cooperation in the field of Justice.
The next CVM report of the European Commission for the two countries is expected this December.
