According to DNA, in 2012, Ovidiu Silaghi in his capacity of Minister of Transport, claimed from Nelu Iordache, director of SC Romstrade Ltd that Blue Air should open new flying routes linking Satu Mare airport to other destinations in Europe.
The opening of new flying routes was requested to support the campaign of Adrian Stef, Silaghi's godson who was running for the office of County Council chairman in Satu Mare and which resulted in a record losses of RON 2,000,000 (about 500,000 Euros) to the detriment of the airline company.
In exchange, Ovidiu Silaghi assured him that the contracts SC Romstrade SRL had concluded with the National Company of Motorways and National Roads in Romania, structure under the Ministry of Transportation, would continue according to schedule and that interim payments would be made within a reasonable time frame.
Investigators also showed that Silaghi allegedly received from Nelu Iordache 200,000 Euros to exercise his influence on the persons responsible for decisions taking within CNADNR so that the decision to terminate one of his contract be cancelled and that the authority would of proceed to the termination of other contracts in force.
In his actions, Ovidiu Silaghi got help from Remus Şpan, former deputy of the Boarder Police general inspector.
On August 19th, the General Prosecutor of the High Court of Cassation and Justice (GPO) called the Chamber of Deputies triggering procedures for the request to initiate prosecution against Ovidiu Silaghi for influence peddling.
On September 3rd, Liberal Ovidiu Silaghi resigned from his MP office.
Ovidiu Silaghi served as Transport Minister from May to December 2012.
