Grogan presented Tuesday the priorities of the Irish Presidency of the EU Council. These are: ensuring a stable financial system, economic recovery and return to growth.
The ambassador mentioned that the Irish Presidency was set "for stability, growth and jobs".
"We know that both Romania and Bulgaria have strong aspirations to join the Schengen Area. One of the important priorities of the Irish Presidency will be to respond to these aspirations and to continue negotiations to reach an agreement in this regard," the diplomat stated.
Grogan specified that Ireland itself was not a member of Schengen, but it would do everything possible to facilitate an agreement between the Member States.
“We can maintain a good communication channel in Bucharest so that Romania’s concerns be well understood both in Dublin and in Brussels", the official said.
The event was attended by Foreign Minister Titus Corlăţean, and Bogdan Mănoiu, presidential adviser on European affairs
