Eduard Novak, rewarded for his success at the Paralympic games
Prime Minister Victor Ponta awarded on Wednesday cyclist Eduard Novak, gold and silver medalist at this year's Paralympics in London in a ceremony held at Victoria Palace.
Ponta praised the performances obtained by the 36 years sportsman and said that he would receive the same reward as the winners of the Olympic Games.

‘The most important message we need to convey is that there aren’t two types of athletes and there aren’t two categories of rewards. There is only one category for those who work and represented us under such special circumstances, ‘Prime Minister said.

‘I hope that from now on there won’t be any laws in Romania to discriminate in any way. The work is the same, the reward should be the same and the congratulations as well’, the head of Government emphasized.

The first Paralympic champion in the Romanian history, Eduard Novak told that he had difficulties early in his career, he came from an area where winter sports are the law.
Me, when I started cycling in Miercurea Ciuc, where there are only winter sports , they would all laugh at me when I would wear a a helmet and cycling equipment, they said I had trouble. I have shown that cycling can be done in this country. There are many athletes who could make performance in cycling, not just Italians, or the French. I think having a velodrom in Romania would not hurt, it would re-launch cycling in Romania, "said the cyclist.

Invited in Antena 3 studio, Novak spoke about the period preceding participation in the Paralympic Games.
.
‘Now, when I look at the medals, they are so beautiful and I have no words to explain how I feel. Behind them there is a lot of work, a life's work. Olympics is a puzzle, everything has to fit in perfectly. In Beijing, I realized what I had to change and I’ve never thought I could not be champion. I believed in this dream and I have always tried to be better’, the double medalist in London said.

Eduard Novak did not forget those who stood beside him on his road to success: "My father helped me a lot at the beginning with the workouts, then we realized that we did not evolve. I had all the information needed and decided to look for a coach who had experience. I found a very famous Italian, Cristiano Valotti who went to three Olympics with Italy’s lot. He agreed to work with me from the first moment. The staff backing you up also counts.’
