The incident occurred at a pizzeria in Rome belonging to an immigrant from Bangladesh.
Authorities had been called to the restaurant because a conflict had arisen between the Romanians who were intoxicated and the local employees. During the incident a window had been broken.
The two drunken Romanians let the their pit-bull off the leash , setting the dog against the police.
The dog jumped on a 68 years old woman who happened to pass by. The victim is a glamorous former star of the 1970s, Gigliola Guerinoni, former owner of an art gallery, who in her youth had gotten involved in numerous scandals and was sentenced to 27 years in prison in 1987 for killing her lover. She was just recently released.
The woman is in serious condition at the hospital, doctors are reluctant about her recovery .
