Premiile Oscar intră pe ultima sută de metri, după ce marţi au fost anunţate nominalizările, în timpul unei conferinţe de presă care a avut loc la Los Angeles.
În premieră, anul acesta, la categoria cel mai bun film se luptă zece pelicule.
Filmele Avatar şi The Hurt Locker par să fie favoritele juriului. Ele au primit, fiecare, câte nouă nominalizări, printre care cele pentru cel mai bun film şi cel mai bun regizor. Lupta se va da, aşadar, între James Cameron şi fosta sa soţie, Kathryn Bigelow, regizoarea peliculei The Hurt Locker.
Filmul Inglorious Basterds al lui Tarantino a obţinut opt nomnializări, fiind urmat de Precious şi Up in the air, fiecare cu câte şase.
