The International Football Association Board, the body that determines the laws of the game, have voted in favour of FIFA introducing goal-line technology into the game of football. The new technology will aid match officials in determining goal-line decisions.

A number of high-profile cases have hit the sport in recent years, including Frank Lampard’s incorrectly disallowed goal for England against Germany at the 2010 World Cup or Ukraine’s incorrectly disallowed goal against England during Euro 2012.

FIFA are now in support of assisting their referees with technology and its ratification from the IFAB means that the governing body can now consider which of two systems - Hawk-Eye and GoalRef - to progress forwards with.

Technology could begin to be implemented in stadiums as soon as the start of the calendar year of 2013.
