President Traian Basescu announced on Wednesday in an interview for TV Moldova 1, that after the parliamentary elections in Moldova he will make a farewell visit to Chisinau, where he will ask for citizenship, stating that this would be a symbolic gesture.
Asked if he would request Moldovan citizenship, as announced , over time, the president replied: "Absolutely yes, I have talked with President Timofti on this issue the other dayand we have established that, after the elections in Moldova I will make a visit, to bid my farewell, and I will submit the application for the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova ".
He had also confessed that he had a great support in obtaining citizenship of the Republic of Moldova from Bessarabian Eugen Tomac, who leads the campaign of the PMP candidate, Elena Udrea, and who always asked: "Mr. President, you did not forget about that request?".
"I have not forgotten, and certainly it would be for me a great honor to be granted the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova" continued Basescu
Asked if this initiative was more than a symbol, Traian Basescu replied: "A symbol and nothing more. A symbolic gesture if the Moldovan authorities want to do it, because I can ask, but someone has to approve that for me, the citizenship ".
Many say that this is the plan of President Basescu to get rid of possible punishments of justice in Romania.
