Abandoned and raised in orphanages, thousands and thousands of Romanian children are awaiting adoption but the Law has created big obstacles to families willing to take them home. Last year, only 800 little ones managed to find a new home. Foreigners who would like to raise Romanian children are banned from adopting them. As for Romanian families, adoption formalities take years on end. The state is wasting a lot of time and money seeking the abandoned children's relatives. The only solution would be an amendment to the legislation in force.
