The Mayor of Bacău-city, Romeo Stavarache, received a suspended three year jail sentence in the "Apartment" case. A local Court passed the sentence yesterday. Judges found him guilty of attempted abuse of power. Stavarache endorsed a buy-sell agreement but the application had not been checked by the special departments with the Bacău Cityhall and the necessary documents had not been attached to it. The same verdict was given for two other persons in the Stavarache case. The three convicts and the anticorruption prosecutors in Bacău can appeal the sentence within ten days.
