Auchan Group announced Friday that it had bought from Metro Group the Real hypermarkets in Central and Eastern Europe, including those in Romania, for 1.1 billion euros.
The Real hypermarkets in Eastern Europe sale to Auchan Groupe targeted 91 Real hypermarkets in Poland, Russia, Romania and Ukraine, as well as 13 commercial galleries in Russia and Romania.
In these four countries, Real has made a turnover of over 2.6 billion euros without taxes in 2011, and has 20,000 employees. Auchan, in turn, owns 98 hypermarkets and more than 65,000 employees in these four countries.
The Auchan Group, controlled by the Mulliez family, owns 10 hypermarkets in Romania, with 3,300 employees according to information from the company's website. The number of Real stores on the Romanian market reached 24.
