The Joint Declaration by the President of Poland, Bronislaw Komorowski and the President of Romania, Klaus Johannis, adopted on Thursday in Warsaw provides for a close cooperation between the two countries on energy security, including through support for the Energy Union, MEDIAFAX informs.

The Joint Declaration by the two heads of state has been presented on the Presidential Administration site and comprises nine points.
Thus, Poland and Romania will consistently promote unity and political solidarity within the EU and NATO, the NATO-EU cooperation and strengthening of the transatlantic link, including ensuring permanent coordination on issues of strategic interest.

Also, given the need for a pragmatic approach and enhanced cooperation on security and defense, they will cooperate for the establishment of a permanent consultation mechanism between the presidential administration of the two countries.

The declaration stipulates that Poland and Romania will support each other in meeting common certain benchmarks at European level, such as further deepening of European integration based on its founding values and principles, supporting European policies aimed at economic growth, strengthening the Economic and Monetary Union, strengthening energy security, further expanding and promoting the European Neighborhood Policy and the Eastern Partnership reviewed - aiming at creating an area of prosperity and stability around the EU, the completion of negotiations on Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).

Moreover, the two countries will cooperate closely on energy security, including through support for the Energy Union, the development of North-South transit corridors and a greater diversification of supply sources.
Poland and Romania will continue to work to ensure a European perspective for the countries members of the Eastern Partnership who signed the Association Agreement with the EU (Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia) and to this end, they shall promote specific projects aimed at supporting institutional strengthening and reform processes in these countries.

Also, the two countries in the Euro-Atlantic community will support all efforts aimed at ensuring an effective response to any threat against the legal order on the continent and internationally recognized borders.

In line with the decisions of the NATO Summit in Newport (2014) and in view of the NATO Summit in Warsaw (2016), Poland and Romania will act consistently to support and strengthen the entire Eastern flank of the Alliance through the means that NATO has or will create the document reads, adding that "the two countries will intensify the synchronization of their efforts aimed at more robust, credible and sustainable NATO allied presence in their territories and at regional level".
"In this context, Poland and Romania consider it essential to ensure adequate defense budgets in accordance with the commitments made by the Allies," the Joint Declaration said.



Poland and Romania shall pursue their strategic partnership with the US. "In the security field, the two countries will seek, inter alia: to provide a relevant presence of American forces on their territories, to best contribute to the development of the missile defense system in Europe, to participate in missions and joint exercises and combat terrorism" the statement reads.

Poland and Romania also commit to working together and continue the regional dialogue between the EU and NATO member states in Central and Eastern Europe, in the format of consultations launched in Warsaw in 2014, at the head of state level.
The Joint Declaration underlines the full commitment of both countries to strengthen NATO's role as an indispensable structure for collective defense and for European and international security, but also for a strong European Union, characterized by cohesion, solidarity, innovative capacity, able to promote a foreign and security policy effective and act as a major player on the international scene, a strong transatlantic relationship, expanding the Euro-Atlantic space values, a solid global system, based on respect for international law, in particular the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of borders able to meet the major challenges of security and effective multilateral cooperation.
