The Ministry of Economy: Romania will be able to export gas from 2013
Romania could export natural gas next year, after eliminating the technical restrictions, announced on Wednesday, the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Economy, Rodin Traicu.
"By the end of this year, we will end all tests for gas exports," Traicu stated, Mediafax reports.

Currently Romania cannot export gas because of technical restrictions. Our country has a single gas pipeline with Hungary, which currently can only import. Two other connections with Bulgaria and Moldova are under construction.

The gas pipeline to Hungary was completed in 2010. Romania has two major gas producers, Romgaz Medias and OMV Petrom, which provide two-thirds of the consumption rate . The difference is imported from Russia through intermediaries.

OMV Petrom officials have stated several times in recent years that they planned to export gas.
The completion of the gas import pipeline was one of the conditions discussed between Romania , the International Monetary Fund and the European Commission.
