Constructors and people in the gas and oil industry flocked to sponsor Basescu's campaign of 2009. The amount reached about 10 million euros, according to information presented Wednesday during the Daily Summary show on Antena 3.
Also, another sponsor of the President's 2004 campaign was Florin Anghelescu, "The Tobacco King", also known as a bully and a smuggler.
Later, as a reward, Florin Anghelescu’s wife, Stana Anghelescu was appointed presidential advisor of Basescu.
Going back to the 2009 campaign for the presidential elections, Lukoil Romania Bucharest contributed 100,000 euros.
PDL benefited in 2009 of over 10 million euros, primarily from money received from private companies. Radu Berceanu himself contributed with 17,600 lei, while Elena Udrea or Adriean Videanu do not appear as having given money to the PDL.
According to data PDL reported and published in the Official Journal, over 500 companies - from small to major companies - have "helped" the president’s campaign.
Overall, PDL received in 2009, 27,655,223 lei from donations (from individuals and private companies) and RON 13,266,235 in contributions from PDL members. In conclusion, PDL had more money than all the other parties combined.
