The PMP President, Elena Udrea rejected Tuesday Baconschi’s allegations according to which intellectuals were marginalized in the PMP, arguing that the party leadership had many intellectuals in it. In her opinion, Baconschi’s upset because he lost the vice president position.

"I do not believe he would have said that, because he would be wrong",  she replied, when asked about the claims Teodor Baconschi made that in  the PMP intellectuals were marginalized.

"Mr. Baconschi would have known that when three men  are running, actually they  were even four for one position, only one wins. Nobody should be upset that Mr. Vlaston  won the vice president position " Udrea said.

She pointed out that there are many intellectuals in the People's Movement and in the party.

"There are people who have intellectual professions, even if they were not defined so far as such in the press, and I think that in the CEN (National Executive Committee – editor’s note), the majority are intellectuals. When referring to the so-called group of reformists, because this is how they called themselves  in the PDL, when they supported the candidacy of  Monica  Macovei, Cristian Preda, for example, is in the party leadership and he  is an MEP.

Also, we have Mr. Vlaston, vice president, who won against Mr. Baconschi .  Mr. Baconschi competed  against  Mr. Papahagi and against  Mr. Vlaston and Mr. Vlaston won. I do not think Mr. Baconschi would contest  Mr. Vlaston "she said.

On the other hand, Elena Udrea recalled that Daniel Funeriu, after losing the race for the party presidency, joined the PMP leadership.
