PM Dacian Cioloş will not bail the TVR out, because he is concerned that the funds will be used for purposes other than the participation in the Eurovision. 

The Prime Minister answered on Facebook to a question about the scandal the public television is involved in.

TVR has a lot of debts accrued over time, not just at Eurovision. It has debts including with its own employees who sued the TVR for salaries. Given the current legal status, the TVR's not at all certain that if the government gives money, the money is directed to Eurovision debts and not other debts, "Prime Minister Ciolos replied on Facebook.

Dacian Cioloş added that he informed the Parliament about the need to change the legislation for TVR to enter into a recovery process. 

European Broadcasting Union, the largest association of public broadcasters in the world withdrew the Romanian Television membership due to non-payment of debts totaling over 10 million.

The oldest debts originate from 2011 - 2012.

Romania will not participate in this year's Eurovision edition because of debts that the Romanian Television has to pay to the competition organizers.

According to official information, the public television debt amounts to approximately 10 million euro.

The most recent payment made by TVR to the contest organizers was in January, but only a tiny amount of the total debt, respectively 250,000 lei.

Eurovision Song Contest will be held in 2016, in Stockholm, Sweden, on 10, 12 and 14 May.

Romania would have participated in the second semifinal of the competition, of 12 May, along with Albania, Bulgaria, Denmark, Georgia, Slovenia, Norway, Ukraine, Belgium, Latvia, Belarus, Ireland, Switzerland, Macedonia, Australia, Lithuania, Poland, Israel and Serbia.

Ovidiu Anton should have represented Romania at Eurovision with the song "Moment of Silence" after winning the national selection competition held Sunday at Baia Mare.

In the in the Eurovision Romania final, the audience was the one who chose whom to send to Stockholm by televoting.
