Asked if they instated a series of checks because irregularities were registered, the head of MADR specified that they were checks necessary to certify the products quality.
‘Currently there aren’t problems, but they were in the past when bio labeled products were proved not to be eco. I believe we must severely sanction those who mean to defraud. We are conducting all the necessary checks’, the minister said.
According to a decision passed Wednesday by the Government, trading products deceitfully labeled with the words ‘bio’ or ‘eco’ will be severely sanctioned not just by fines but it could lead to a temporary cease from trading the products in question.

Penalties were established in order to comply with Regulation (EC) 834/2007 on organic products and their labeling.
