Historic discovery in a city in Romania. "It's millions of years old"
A mammoth skull was discovered by a man in Covasna, interested in archeology. It is the second skeleton found in the area in recent years, and scientists have an explanation for this.

The Planet’s last  giants as  the mammoths are called, would migrate from Asia to Europe in the winter, and the route went  through Romania.

The mammoth’s  skeleton skull, a few million years old, was discovered accidentally by a man interested  in  archeology.

IMRE SABU – Geologist: "At first glance, it seems to  be a mammoth’s skull. Not  a mastodon’s. Because the molar is too big, such a big  mastodon’s  molar I have never seen  in  history books nor in  bibliography."

Once all the bone fragments will be recovered and put in order, the  mammoth will  most likely arrive  at the Baraolt Museum. Four years ago, also in Covasna, mammoth skeleton was found - the most complete   in Europe.

The oldest species:

In North Africa fossils were found (aged 4.8 million years) of a species experts  called  Mammuthus africanavus, the oldest known species. During evolution, some species have remained stationed in the southern areas of Europe, such as Mammuthus meridionalis, others headed north to the vast open spaces of the northern regions of Eurasia, adapting to  the life in the cold steppes, beaten by the winds (although not necessarily covered by snow, as it was rather dry climate).
