"I was member of the last Supreme Soviet of the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic in August 31, 1989 when fully aware I raised my hand for the official language law, the law on the use of languages in the SSRM which provides that our language is Moldavian. What are they doing today? Where is the Moldavian language? They do not understand and do not know that the Romanian language as such does not exist and has never existed? It was the outcome of the creation of the Romanian state, " the leader of the Communist Party said.
"Romania when it established itself as a state took our Moldavian language and called it Romanian for the state was called Romania. Asked the Romanians over the Prut what’s the name of their language in Romania", Vladimir Voronin said.
