Having crashed out at the group stages of last year’s competition, Manchester United will hope for better luck in the Champions League this season. Last year United were placed in a group with Benfica, FC Basel and Otelul Galati and whilst many expected United to ease through their group, we only managed wins in the two ties with Galati. A defeat to FC Basel in the final group game signalled United’s exit, and to make matters worse Nemanja Vidic picked up a season ending injury.
