Simona Halep, 3rd WTA and number three head of series, became on Wednesday the first player from Romania to qualify into the semifinals of the Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament after defeating by a score of 6-4, 6 -0, the German athlete Sabine Lisicki, No. 19 WTA and 19 head of series.
Halep exceed the performance obtained by Virginia Ruzici, qualified in the quarters in 1978 and 1981.
In the semifinals, Halep will meet Eugenie Bouchard (Canada, 13th WTA and 13 head of series).
The player born in Constanţa is only one game away from becoming no. 2 WTA. A qualification into the final will make Halep accede to the second position, after the American Serena Williams.
