Bulgarian Premier Boiko Borisov announced Wednesday in Parliament his Government’s resignation, after ten days of rallies organized throughout the country against the increase in energy price, AFP reports.


“We have dignity and honor. The people is the one who entrusted us with the power, today we give it back”, Boiko Borisov stated specifying that he would not be part of an interim government before the legislative elections scheduled for July.



The prime minister reminded, before the Parliament, the violent clashes from Sofia between policemen and protesters adding that “every drop of blood is a disgrace for us”



“I will not be part of a Government whose police forces beat people and where rallies threats replace public debate”, he added.


The Prime Minister also announced that the resignation will be officially filed at noon, after the Government’s last meeting.


Thus he reacted to the tensions rising, the rallies in Sofia registered 28 wounded, among them 5 police officers, Tuesday and Wednesday.



Through his resignation gesture, Prime Minister Borisov proved that " he was a true statesman," the , Bulgarian Minister of Interior Tsvetan Tsvetanov, stated Wednesday , novinite.com reports.


Since the parliamentary elections were normally scheduled for July 7, the Government resignation would bring them closer by a few weeks.

He said that for his party, GERB (center right) it would be convenient that the parliamentary elections took place earlier, in July, but warned that in that case, several sections of major highways would not be completed.
