The number of Romanians and Bulgarians who have left to work in the UK has reached a new record high, official statistics show, The Daily Telegraph reports Wednesday, according to  Agerpres

The data provided by the National Bureau of Statistics show that by the end of September, the UK labor market employed 189,000 citizens from the  two Eastern European countries, which means an increase of 31,000 from the previous quarter.

However, the figures show an initial decrease in the number of workers in the UK from all the other countries of the European Union as a whole for  more than one year.

In late September, in the UK there were 1.817 million EU workers, compared to the number of 1,847,000 at the end of the previous quarter. However, the number of Europeans from countries with economic problems - such as Spain, Italy and Greece - has continued to grow steadily in the last year.

The number of workers from the eight former communist countries that joined the EU in 2004, including Poland, declined slightly from 866,000 to 850,000 between late June and late September. This means that Romania and Bulgaria are the only countries that have experienced high levels of immigration to UK.

New figures provided by the National Bureau of Statistics show that the number of immigrants living in the UK coming from the 14 older EU member states such as France and Germany fell by 45,000 to reach 742,000 by the end of September.
